How it is calculated

Under 40: none. 40 to 120: 1. 121 to 200: 2. 201 to 399: 3. 400 or more: 1 for every full 100.

Example

Inputs: Number of sheep and goats = 150. Result: Sheep due: 2; Next level starts at: 201.

Limits and caveats

  • The table is for animals that graze freely most of the year (majority view); fodder-fed flocks owe none unless kept for trade.
  • Flocks kept for trade are zakated by value as trade goods, not by this table.

Questions about this tool

Are goats added to sheep?

Yes. Sheep and goats count as one kind for zakat and are added together.

What age of animal is given?

Many jurists say a young sheep past six months or a goat in its second year; defective or prized animals are not taken.

Why do 201 and 399 owe the same?

The hadith sets 3 at 201, then 1 for every 100, so the fourth is not due until 400.
