How to use it

- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Add: VAT = amount × 20 ÷ 100 and total = amount × 1.2. Remove from an inclusive price: amount before VAT = total ÷ 1.2 and VAT = total × 20 ÷ 120.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 100 GBP, Calculation = Add VAT to the amount, VAT rate = 20 %. Result: Total including VAT: 120.00 GBP; Amount before VAT: 100.00 GBP; VAT amount: 20.00 GBP.
Limits and caveats
- The default 20% is the HMRC standard rate since 4 January 2011.
- A 5% reduced rate and a zero rate apply to some goods, so change the rate for the item.
