Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter bill before charges, service charge, tax rate, tax also applies to the service charge, number of people and round each share up to.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Service = subtotal × service rate. Tax = (subtotal + service if taxable) × tax rate. Total = subtotal + service + tax. Share = total ÷ people, rounded up to the chosen multiple.

Example

Inputs: Bill before charges = 480, Service charge = 10 %, Tax rate = 15 %, Tax also applies to the service charge = yes, Number of people = 4. Result: Each person pays: 151.80; Bill total: 607.20; Service charge: 48.00.

Limits and caveats

  • It splits evenly and ignores who ordered what.
  • The service and tax rates are your inputs, so check them on the bill.

Questions about this tool

Is tax charged on the service charge?

In many countries yes, because the service charge is part of the price of the service. Leave the option on if your bill works that way.

Why round the share up?

It makes paying in cash easier. The surplus after rounding is shown and can be left as a tip.

What if everyone ordered different things?

Use the itemized bill splitter, which spreads service and tax in proportion to each order.
