How it is calculated
Distance (m) = steps × step length (cm) ÷ 100. Kilometers = meters ÷ 1000, and miles = kilometers ÷ 1.609344.
Example
Inputs: Number of steps = 8,000, Step length = 70 cm. Result: Distance: 5.6 km; In miles: 3.48 mi; In meters: 5,600 m.
Limits and caveats
- Step length changes with speed and terrain, so the result is approximate.
- Phone step counters can count movements that are not steps.

How do I measure my step length?
Walk 10 normal steps, measure the distance covered in centimeters, then divide by 10.
