How to use it
- Enter tied players (one per line), die and draw number.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Each round, every remaining player rolls an s-sided die and only those with the highest roll stay. Rounds repeat until one is left. By symmetry each player wins with chance 1 / n.
Example
Inputs: Die = d6, Draw number = 1. Result: Winner: Sara; Tied players: 3; Chance for each player: 33.3333%.
Limits and caveats
- This settles a tie by luck only. If the competition has an official tie-break rule, that comes first.
- Every name must be different.
Questions about this tool
What if two players tie on the top roll?
Only they roll again in a new round, and the lower roll drops out, until one winner is left.
Does the die type affect fairness?
No. Each player has a 1 / n chance with any die, but more sides means fewer repeat rounds.
Why not just pick a random name?
It is equally fair, but a roll log is easier to show the players and convince them.
