How it is calculated
Tip = (bill - excluded tax) × rate ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ number of people.
Example
Inputs: Bill amount = 180, Tip rate = 10 %, Number of people = 4. Result: Tip amount: 18.00; Total with tip: 198.00; Each person pays: 49.50.
Limits and caveats
- It splits evenly; to split by what each person ordered use the itemized bill splitter.
- It does not know local customs or a service charge already on the bill.
Questions about this tool
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Tipping on the pre-tax amount is common. Enter the tax in the optional field to leave it out of the tip base.
What tip rate is usual?
It depends on the country and the service, and many restaurants already add a service charge. Check the bill before adding a new tip.
How do I split the tip in a group?
