How to use it

  1. Enter distance, average speed and total break time.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Driving time = distance ÷ average speed. Total time = driving time + stop minutes ÷ 60.

Example

Inputs: Distance = 450 km, Average speed = 100 km/h, Total break time = 30 min. Result: Total trip time: 5:00 h:mm; Driving time only: 4:30 h:mm; Total time in hours: 5 h.

Limits and caveats

  • Real average speed is usually below the speed limit because of traffic and signals.
  • Time zone differences between cities are not included.

Questions about this tool

What average speed should I enter for a highway trip?

With a 120 km/h limit, 100 km/h is a realistic average for most long drives. City driving is much slower.

How do I read a result like 5:00?

The number before the colon is hours and the part after it is minutes, so 5:00 means exactly five hours.

Are breaks included in the driving time?

No. Driving time is shown on its own line and the headline total adds your breaks.
