How to use it

  1. Enter basic monthly salary, years of service, extra months, extra days, unpaid leave days and daily wage basis.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.

How it is calculated

Daily wage = basic ÷ 30. Gratuity = daily wage × (21 days for each of the first 5 years + 30 days for each later year), after at least one year of continuous service, capped at 2 years of basic pay.

Example

Inputs: Basic monthly salary = 12,000 AED, Years of service = 8 years, Extra months = 3 months, Extra days = 0 days, Unpaid leave days = 0 days. Result: Gratuity due: 81,000.00 AED; Days of pay earned: 202.5 days; Cap (2 years of basic pay): 288,000.00 AED.

Limits and caveats

  • Covers contracts under the federal labour law, not free zones with their own rules such as DIFC and ADGM.
  • The law does not spell out dividing by 30 or 365, so you can pick the basis.

Questions about this tool

Is the gratuity cut if I resign?

No. The new law treats resignation and termination the same for gratuity, once you complete one year.

Are allowances included?

No. It is based on the last basic salary only, without housing or transport allowances.

Do unpaid leave days count?

They are not part of service, so the calculator subtracts them.
