How to use it
- Enter inside diameter, tank height, liquid level and length unit.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Liquid volume = π × (D/2)² × liquid level, capacity = π × (D/2)² × tank height; 1000 cm³ equals one liter.
Example
Inputs: Inside diameter = 100, Tank height = 150, Liquid level = 50, Length unit = Centimeter (cm). Result: Liquid volume: 392.699 L; Total tank capacity: 1,178.097 L; Fill percentage: 33.33%.
Limits and caveats
- Assumes an upright tank with a flat bottom; cone or dished bottoms change the volume at low levels.
- Use the inside diameter, since wall thickness reduces the real capacity.
Questions about this tool
How many liters in a tank 1 m wide and 1.5 m tall?
Capacity is π × 0.5² × 1.5, about 1.178 m³, roughly 1178 liters.
Is the fill percentage linear here?
Yes. In an upright tank volume is proportional to level, so half the height means half the capacity.
I have the circumference, not the diameter.
Divide the circumference by π. A 314 cm circumference means a diameter of about 100 cm.
