Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter values and weights (same order).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Weighted average = Σ(value × weight) ÷ Σ(weights).
Example
Result: Weighted average: 77; Sum of weights: 100; Sum of value × weight: 7,700.
Limits and caveats
- Negative weights are not accepted.
- For a GPA, convert grades to your university's grade points first, then use credit hours as weights.
Questions about this tool
Do the weights have to add up to 100?
No. The tool divides by whatever the weights add up to, so percentages, hours and quantities all work.
How does it differ from a plain average?
A plain average treats every value equally; a weighted one gives values with larger weights more influence.
How do I average the cost of stock bought at different prices?
Put each batch price in the values and its quantity in the weights; the result is the average cost per unit.
