How to use it
- Enter acceleration time and final speed.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Average acceleration (m/s²) = (speed ÷ 3.6) ÷ time; in g = acceleration ÷ 9.80665. Distance assuming constant acceleration = (speed ÷ 3.6) × time ÷ 2.
Example
Inputs: Acceleration time = 7.5 s, Final speed = 100 km/h. Result: Average acceleration: 3.7 m/s²; Acceleration in g: 0.378 g; Approximate distance: 104.2 m.
Limits and caveats
- Real acceleration is not constant: it is higher at first and falls with speed and gear changes, so the result is an average and the distance is approximate.
Questions about this tool
How many g is a 3-second 0-100 car?
About 0.94 g on average, close to free-fall acceleration.
Is 0-60 mph the same as 0-100 km/h?
No. 60 mph is 96.56 km/h, so the 0-60 time is slightly shorter.
Why is the distance approximate?
It assumes constant acceleration, while a car pulls harder at the start and so covers a slightly different distance.
