  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.

How it is calculated

AOV = revenue ÷ orders. Items per order = items ÷ orders. Average item price = revenue ÷ items.

Example

Inputs: Total revenue = 45,000, Number of orders = 300, Items sold (optional) = 750. Result: Average order value: 150.00; Items per order: 2.5; Average item price: 60.00.

Limits and caveats

  • Use revenue after discounts and returns for the same period, and decide upfront whether shipping and tax are included.

Questions about this tool

Should revenue include shipping and tax?

Most stores exclude both to measure product value, but the key is to use the same method every time.

How is AOV different from average item price?

AOV is the whole basket; item price is one unit. An order can hold several items.

How does it help set a free shipping threshold?

Many stores set it a little above the AOV to nudge customers to add one more item.
