How to use it

  1. Enter unit cost, target margin on price, percentage fee and fixed fee per order.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Price = (cost + fixed fee) ÷ (1 - margin ÷ 100 - fee rate ÷ 100). Fees = price × fee rate + fixed fee.

Example

Inputs: Unit cost = 50, Target margin on price = 30 %, Percentage fee = 5 %, Fixed fee per order = 1. Result: Required selling price: 78.46; Total fees: 4.92; Net profit per unit: 23.54.

Limits and caveats

  • Fee rates vary by platform and category, so enter the rate in your own agreement.
  • VAT, including any VAT charged on the fee, is not included.
  • If fees are charged on price plus shipping, the result is approximate.

Questions about this tool

Why not just add the fee rate to my markup?

The fee is taken from the larger selling price, so adding it on cost leaves you below your target profit.

What is the fixed fee per order?

A flat amount some payment gateways and marketplaces charge per transaction on top of the percentage.

Is this a net or gross margin?

It is profit after unit cost and the fees you enter only; ads and rent are not deducted.
