  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Selling price = cost × (1 + markup ÷ 100). Profit = price - cost. Margin = profit ÷ price × 100.

Example

Inputs: Unit cost = 60, Markup = 50 %. Result: Selling price: 90.00; Profit per unit: 30.00; Margin on selling price: 33.33%.

Limits and caveats

  • Include everything you pay per unit (purchase, shipping, packing) in the cost, or the profit will be overstated.
  • VAT and payment fees are not included.

Questions about this tool

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is measured on cost, margin on the selling price. A 50% markup therefore gives a margin of only 33.33%.

What markup doubles the cost?

A 100% markup makes the selling price twice the cost, which is a 50% margin.

Does the price include VAT?

No, the result is a pre-tax price. Add VAT on top once the price is set, if your business is registered for it.
