How do I show the amount in words on the receipt?
The tool prints the amount in figures only, such as 850.00 SAR, and does not spell it out. If you want the words as well, type them yourself in the notes, for example 'Eight hundred and fifty Saudi riyals only', and check them against the figure, because the tool does not compare the two.
Why people ask for the amount in words
On traditional paper receipts and cheques the amount is written twice, in figures and in words. A handwritten figure is easy to alter; a full sentence is much harder. Some customers and companies are used to that and ask for it, particularly for large amounts or when the receipt is handed on to someone else.
In a PDF the figures print in a clean font that is hard to misread, but if a customer wants the words, adding them costs you a minute.
Where it goes in the tool
- In the Receipt generator, enter 850 with SAR; the summary shows 850.00 SAR.
- Fill in the method, what the payment is for and both parties as usual.
- In 'Notes (optional)', type: 'Amount in words: Eight hundred and fifty Saudi riyals only'.
- Create the file and, in the preview, read the figure on the 'Amount received' line and then the words under 'Notes'. Make sure they are the same amount.
The notes print below the amount table and above the signature line, so whoever signs and whoever receives the paper both read them.
Common mistakes with amounts in words
- Dropping the halalas: 640.25 is 'Six hundred and forty riyals and twenty-five halalas', not 'Six hundred and forty riyals'.
- Changing the amount in the tool after writing the words and forgetting the note. Always change both.
- Mixing up the currency: an AED receipt says dirhams, not riyals. Kuwaiti dinars print with three decimals, such as 18.500 KWD, so spell out the fils to match.
- Leaving off 'only' at the end, the word that stops anything being added after the amount.
Arabic-Indic digits in the note
The receipt prints the amount in Western digits, like 850.00. If an Arabic-reading customer would also like the figure in Arabic-Indic digits inside the note, convert it with the Arabic/Persian/Western digit converter: 850.00 becomes ٨٥٠.٠٠ with its value unchanged. The converter leaves the decimal separator as it is on purpose, so check how it looks before pasting.
Common questions
Will the tool add the words automatically?
No, it prints the amount in figures only. The words are text you write in the notes.
Can the words replace the figure?
No. The amount is a required field and always prints. The words are an addition to the figure, not a substitute.
