Should I send a customer the invoice page as an extracted PDF or as a JPG image?
For an invoice a customer may file, print or pass to their accounts team, an extracted PDF page is the better fit: its text can be selected and copied and it prints sharply at any size. A JPG shows right inside the chat but is just a picture of the page, so use it when a quick preview matters more than a printable document.
The scenario
Order 1043 from your store has a file, order-1043.pdf, with 4 pages: the order summary, the invoice on page 2, the exchange policy and the shipping label. The customer has asked only for the invoice. The question is what form to send it in.
What a customer usually needs from an invoice
- To copy the invoice number, the amount or the tax number exactly, without retyping it from a picture and getting a digit wrong.
- To print a clean A4 copy if their employer asks for one.
- To file it with their other invoices and find it later by searching for your store's name.
- To upload it to an expenses system or a portal that specifically wants a PDF.
A PDF covers all of these, because its text is real text. A picture covers none of them reliably.
Extracting the invoice page
- Open Split PDF and choose order-1043.pdf.
- Choose “Extract to one PDF” and type 2.
- Press “Split and download” to get order-1043-pages-2.pdf, holding only the invoice page.
- Send it to the customer by email or on WhatsApp as a document.
When a picture is the better choice
When the customer asks in a chat whether the invoice has been issued and just wants to see the amount at a glance, without opening an attachment. Or when you send a quick confirmation with a thank-you message. Then turn the page into an image with PDF to images, and attach the PDF alongside for anyone who wants the original. Skip the screenshot; it is less clear and catches bits of your screen too.
A note about the invoice itself
Extracting changes nothing in the invoice's content; it neither adds nor removes any official standing. If the original was digitally signed, the signature is not valid in the extracted page, and if the recipient requires the original file as issued by your system, send that in full.
Common questions
Which one is smaller?
It depends on the page and the image resolution. A text invoice page as a PDF is usually small, and a high-resolution image can be larger.
Will the customer see the other pages of the order?
No. The extracted file contains only page 2.
