How it is calculated
Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ base × 100, where the base is followers, reach or impressions.
Example
Inputs: Likes = 400, Comments = 50, Shares = 30, Saves = 20, Divide by = Followers. Result: Engagement rate by followers: 5%; Total engagements: 500.
Limits and caveats
- Platforms do not share one definition of engagement, so compare figures computed the same way.
- Fake followers drag the follower-based rate down without showing in reach.
Questions about this tool
Should I divide by followers or by reach?
Followers is the common base for comparing accounts. Reach measures engagement among people who actually saw the post and is usually higher.
What counts as an engagement?
Likes, comments, shares and saves are the usual set. Some add clicks, so state your definition when sharing numbers.
How do I get the rate for a whole account?
Add up engagements across several posts and divide by the number of posts for a per-post average, then enter it here with your follower count.
