How it is calculated

cups = grams ÷ 113. tbsp = cups × 16, tsp = cups × 48, metric cups = cups × 236.59 ÷ 250. The kitchen measure is rounded to the nearest 1/4 tsp.

Example

Inputs: Weight = 250 g. Result: US cups: 2.21 cups; Tablespoons: 35.4 tbsp; Teaspoons: 106.2 tsp.

Limits and caveats

  • The figure is for 100% whole wheat flour, spooned and leveled; flours of a different grind can weigh differently.
  • The kitchen measure is rounded to the nearest 1/4 tsp, and chart figures to the gram.
  • Metric cup (250 mL) and spoon values are scaled by volume from the 236.59 mL US cup figure.

Questions about this tool

How many cups is 250 g of whole wheat flour?

250 g is about 2.21 US cups, or 2 cups + 3 tbsp + 1 1/4 tsp, at 113 g per cup.

When swapping white flour for whole wheat, do I keep the same cups?

Swap by weight rather than cups, and expect the dough to need a little more water because whole wheat absorbs more liquid.

Is the result in US or metric cups?

The main result is in 236.59 mL US cups, which the chart uses, and metric 250 mL cups are shown too: 250 g of whole wheat flour is 2.09 metric cups.
