- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
grams = cups × 185 g per US cup (236.59 mL). For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 185 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 195.49 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Weight in grams: 370 g; Weight in ounces: 13.05 oz; Grams per cup used: 185 g.
Limits and caveats
- The USDA chart has no separate basmati entry, so this uses the long-grain white rice figure (185 g), which USDA also gives for parboiled long-grain rice.
- How you fill the cup changes the weight: spoon it in and level it without packing, or weigh your cup once and enter the figure in the optional box.
- Figures are for the dry product before cooking or soaking; cooked weight is much higher because it absorbs water.
Questions about this tool
How many grams are in a cup of basmati rice?
A US cup of uncooked basmati weighs about 185 g, and a 250 mL metric cup about 195.5 g.
Does the figure work for sella basmati?
Close enough: USDA gives the same 185 g per cup for parboiled long-grain rice.
Is this cooked or raw rice?
Raw. Cooked rice weighs far more per cup because it has absorbed water.
