Limits and caveats
- The figure is for a level spoon; a heaped spoon can weigh a lot more.
- Chart figures are rounded to the gram, so use a scale with 0.1 g steps for small amounts.
- A teaspoon here is 1/48 US cup (4.93 mL), and a tablespoon is 3 teaspoons.
Questions about this tool
How many grams is 1 tablespoon of baking soda?
A tablespoon is 3 teaspoons, so it weighs 18 g, and half a teaspoon is 3 g.
Can I replace baking soda with baking powder?
Not at the same amount or weight. Soda is much stronger and needs an acid in the recipe, so a swap changes taste and texture.
Why do spoon weights differ between websites?
Some charts round differently or use heaped spoons. This tool uses the King Arthur Baking ingredient weight chart: 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda = 3 g, so 1 teaspoon is 6 g.
