- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
cups = grams ÷ 185 g per US cup (236.59 mL) for the first type. With a 250 mL metric cup divide by 195.49 g. The leftover part of a cup is shown in tablespoons (16 per US cup, 15 mL each in metric), rounded to the nearest half spoon.
Example
Inputs: Weight = 1,000 g, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL), Rice type = White long-grain, raw. Result: Cups: 5.41; In cups and spoons: 5 cups + 6.5 tbsp; Volume in millilitres: 1,279 mL.
Limits and caveats
- Figures are from the USDA chart for dry long grain rice; your brand may differ slightly.
- How you fill the cup changes the weight: spoon it in and level it without packing, or weigh your cup once and enter the figure in the optional box.
- Figures are for the dry product before cooking or soaking; cooked weight is much higher because it absorbs water.
Questions about this tool
How many cups are in 500 g of long grain white rice?
About 2.7 US cups, roughly 2 cups and 11 tablespoons.
Why does instant rice give more cups?
A cup of it weighs only about 95 g, so the same weight fills more cups.
What is the own cup weight box for?
If you weigh your filled cup, enter that figure and the tool uses it instead of the chart.
