How to use it
- Enter radius and length unit.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Volume = 2/3 × π × r³, curved area = 2πr², total area = 3πr² (curved part plus the circular base).
Example
Inputs: Radius = 10, Length unit = Centimeter (cm). Result: Volume: 2,094.3951 cm³; Curved surface area: 628.3185 cm²; Total surface area with base: 942.4778 cm².
Limits and caveats
- Assumes an exact half sphere; for a thick bowl use the inner radius to get its capacity.
- Results are in the cube or square of the unit you chose, so enter every dimension in that same unit.
Questions about this tool
What is the hemisphere volume formula?
Volume = 2/3 × π × r³, exactly half of a full sphere.
Why is the total area 3πr²?
It adds the curved surface 2πr² and the circular base πr².
How many liters are in a dome with a 1 m radius?
It holds about 2.094 m³, roughly 2094 liters.
