Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter gpa scale, current cumulative gpa, hours counted so far, target cumulative gpa, expected term gpa and hours per semester.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Hours needed = current hours × (target − current) ÷ (expected GPA − target). Semesters = hours rounded up ÷ hours per term, rounded up.
Example
Inputs: GPA scale = Out of 5.0, Current cumulative GPA = 3.5, Hours counted so far = 60 hours, Target cumulative GPA = 4, Expected term GPA = 4.5. Result: Hours needed: 60 hours; Hours rounded up: 60; Approximate semesters: 4.
Limits and caveats
- It assumes you keep the same expected term GPA every semester.
- The hours left in your study plan may not be enough to reach the target before you graduate.
Questions about this tool
Why must the expected GPA be above the target?
A cumulative GPA moves toward your term GPA but never passes it. If they are equal, you never quite reach the target.
Is the result in hours or courses?
In credit hours. Divide by your usual course size, such as 3, for a rough number of courses.
How can I cut the hours needed?
Every rise in your expected term GPA lowers the hours needed, so try a few values to see the effect.
