Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter status code.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
The code is matched against the IANA registry and RFC 9110 names. Class from the first digit: 1 informational, 2 success, 3 redirection, 4 client error, 5 server error. An unregistered code is treated like x00 of its class.
Example
Inputs: Status code = 404. Result: Code: 404 Not Found; Class: Client error (4xx); Meaning: The server found nothing at this URL..
Limits and caveats
- Unofficial codes are limited to common nginx and Cloudflare ones; other services may use the same number differently.
- Cacheable by default means heuristic caching is allowed by RFC 9110; Cache-Control headers override it.
Questions about this tool
What is the difference between 301 and 302?
301 is permanent and search engines pass link value to the new URL; 302 is temporary and keeps the old URL as the main one.
What is the difference between 401 and 403?
401 means you are not signed in or the credentials are wrong; 403 means the server knows you but will not allow it.
What causes 502 and 504?
Both come from a proxy like nginx or a CDN: 502 got a bad reply from the backend, 504 got no reply in time.
