How it is calculated
grams = cups × 81 g per US cup (236.59 mL) for the first type; each type shows its own figure in the source line. For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 81 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 85.59 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL), Oat type = Rolled or quick oats (flakes). Result: Weight in grams: 162 g; Weight in ounces: 5.71 oz; Grams per cup used: 81 g.
Limits and caveats
- The flakes figure (81 g) is for dry regular and quick oats; instant oat sachets may differ.
- How you fill the cup changes the weight: spoon it in and level it without packing, or weigh your cup once and enter the figure in the optional box.
- USDA figures are rounded to the whole gram per cup, and grain size, variety and moisture make your real weight a little higher or lower.
