How it is calculated
grams = cups × 167 g per US cup (236.59 mL). For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 167 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 176.47 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Weight in grams: 334 g; Weight in ounces: 11.78 oz; Grams per cup used: 167 g.
Limits and caveats
- The USDA chart does not separate fine and coarse semolina, and their cup weights can differ.
- How you fill the cup changes the weight: spoon it in and level it without packing, or weigh your cup once and enter the figure in the optional box.
- USDA figures are rounded to the whole gram per cup, and grain size, variety and moisture make your real weight a little higher or lower.
