How to use it
- Enter total shipping cost, split method and products (one per line: name, number).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Share = shipping cost × (item number ÷ sum of numbers). Equal split: share = cost ÷ number of lines. Shares are rounded to 2 decimals and leftover cents go to the lines with the largest remainders.
Example
Inputs: Total shipping cost = 150, Split method = By the number on each line (value, weight or quantity). Result: Average shipping per line: 50.00.
Limits and caveats
- Write numbers without thousands separators, such as 1500 rather than 1,500.
- Splitting by value or weight is an accounting choice you make, not a rule set by the carrier.
Questions about this tool
Which basis should I choose?
Weight suits carriers that bill by weight, value suits light expensive goods, and quantity works when items are similar.
Why is one line a cent higher?
Rounding to 2 decimals leaves fractions, so the leftover cent goes to the line with the largest one and the total matches the bill.
Does this help with product costing?
Yes. Add each share to the purchase cost of that product and divide by quantity to get the landed cost per unit.
