How to use it

  1. Enter value, the value is and length unit.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Volume = 4/3 × π × r³, surface area = 4πr², great circle circumference = 2πr.

Example

Inputs: Value = 10, The value is = Radius, Length unit = Centimeter (cm). Result: Volume: 4,188.7902 cm³; Surface area: 1,256.6371 cm²; Radius: 10 cm.

Limits and caveats

  • Assumes a perfect sphere; real objects such as inflated balls can deviate slightly.
  • Results are in the cube or square of the unit you chose, so enter every dimension in that same unit.

Questions about this tool

What is the sphere volume formula?

Volume = 4/3 × π × r³. A sphere with a 3 cm radius holds 36π, about 113.1 cm³.

I only know the diameter. What now?

Pick "Diameter" in the list and the calculator halves it for you.

Why are area and volume equal at radius 3?

Both 4/3 × π × 27 and 4 × π × 9 equal 36π. The number matches but the units differ.
