How it is calculated

Each letter, digit or sign is replaced by its dot and dash pattern from Recommendation ITU-R M.1677-1; letters are split by a space and words by /.

Example

Result: Morse code: ... --- ... / .... . .-.. .-.. ---; Characters converted: 8; Unsupported symbols: None.

SOS Hello
... --- ... / .... . .-.. .-.. ---

Limits and caveats

  • Arabic letters and accented letters such as é are not supported here; use the Arabic Morse tool for Arabic.
  • The signs !, & and ; are not in the ITU table, so they are skipped and listed as unsupported.

Questions about this tool

What does the slash in the result mean?

It separates words. Letters inside a word are separated by a single space.

How is SOS written in Morse code?

Three dots, three dashes, three dots, that is S, O, S, and in practice it is sent as one run without letter gaps.

Does Morse code have upper and lower case?

No. Each letter has one pattern, so A and a give the same code.
