How to use it
- Enter text.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
A letter's key is pressed as many times as its place on the key: A = 2, B = 22, C = 222, S = 7777, Z = 9999; a space is 0, and letters are split by spaces.
Example
Result: Key presses: 44 33 555 555 666; Total presses: 13; Unsupported symbols: None.
hello
44 33 555 555 666
Limits and caveats
- Digits and symbols were typed differently from phone to phone, so they are not supported.
- A space is shown as 0 as on most older phones; some models used another key.
Questions about this tool
Why are digits repeated, as in 555?
L is the third letter on key 5, so the key is pressed three times.
How are two letters on the same key typed in a row?
With a pause between them, shown here as a space, like 555 555 in hello.
How is this different from phone letters to numbers?
That gives one key per letter for dialling; this gives the presses needed to type a letter in a message.
