How it is calculated
grams = amount × unit size in US cups × 113. 1 tbsp = 1/16 cup, 1 tsp = 1/48 cup, metric cup 250 mL = 1.0567 US cups. 1 oz = 28.3495 g.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 0.5, Unit = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Weight in grams: 56.5 g; Weight in ounces: 1.99 oz.
Limits and caveats
- The figure is for 100% whole wheat flour, spooned and leveled; flours of a different grind can weigh differently.
- Chart figures are rounded to the gram, and a scale is more exact than any cup.
- Metric cup (250 mL) and spoon values are scaled by volume from the 236.59 mL US cup figure.
Questions about this tool
How many grams is 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour?
Half a US cup is 56.5 g, because a full cup is 113 g in the chart; a quarter cup is 28.3 g.
Can I use the white flour figure for whole wheat flour?
No. The chart lists whole wheat at 113 g per cup against 120 g for white flour, so use its own figure.
Why do cup weights differ between websites?
Charts assume different ways of filling the cup. This tool uses the King Arthur Baking ingredient weight chart: 1 cup of whole wheat flour = 113 g, spooned into the cup and leveled.
