How to use it
- Enter bore, stroke and cylinders.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Displacement (cc) = π ÷ 4 × bore² × stroke × cylinders ÷ 1000, with bore and stroke in mm. Cubic inches = cc ÷ 16.387064.
Example
Inputs: Bore = 86 mm, Stroke = 86 mm, Cylinders = 4. Result: Displacement: 1,998.2 cc; In liters: 1.998 L; In cubic inches: 121.9 cu in.
Limits and caveats
- Manufacturers' official figures can differ slightly because of rounding or more precise bore measurements.
Questions about this tool
Is cc the same as cubic centimeters?
Yes. cc stands for cubic centimeter, and 1000 cc equals one liter.
What is a square engine?
One whose bore equals its stroke, such as 86 × 86 mm in an engine of about 2.0 liters.
Does a bigger bore add more than a longer stroke?
For roughly the same millimeter increase, yes, because bore is squared in the formula while stroke is linear.
