How to use it
- Enter length, width, layer depth, density and price per tonne (optional).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Volume = length × width × (depth ÷ 100). Weight in tonnes = volume × density (t/m³). Cost = weight × price per tonne if given.
Example
Inputs: Length = 5 m, Width = 4 m, Layer depth = 10 cm, Density = 1.6 t/m³. Result: Weight: 3.2 t; Volume: 2 m³; In cubic yards: 2.616 yd³.
Limits and caveats
- 1.6 t/m³ is an average for loose gravel; real figures run 1.4 to 1.8 by size and moisture, so ask your supplier.
- Compaction reduces volume, so add 10% to 15% for compacted layers.
Questions about this tool
How many tonnes for a 5 × 4 m path 10 cm deep?
That is 2 m³, and at 1.6 t/m³ it weighs 3.2 tonnes.
How much does a cubic metre of gravel weigh?
Roughly 1.4 to 1.8 tonnes depending on the stone, grain size and moisture.
How deep should driveway gravel be?
Many use 10 to 15 cm of gravel over a compacted sub-base; soft ground needs more.
