How to use it
- Enter bill amount incl. vat, tier 1 limit, tier 1 rate, tier 2 rate, fixed meter fee and vat.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Energy charge = total ÷ (1 + VAT) minus fixed fee. Within tier 1: usage = charge ÷ rate 1; otherwise: limit + (charge minus limit × rate 1) ÷ rate 2.
Example
Inputs: Bill amount incl. VAT = 310.5, Tier 1 limit = 6,000 kWh, Tier 1 rate = 0.18 per kWh, Tier 2 rate = 0.3 per kWh, Fixed meter fee = 0. Result: Estimated usage: 1,500 kWh; Energy charge before VAT: 270.00; VAT paid: 40.50.
Limits and caveats
- Defaults are the Saudi residential tariff: 0.18 SAR up to 6,000 kWh and 0.30 SAR above, with 15% VAT.
- Subtract any arrears or adjustments from the amount first.
Questions about this tool
How many kWh is a 310.50 SAR bill?
Removing 15% VAT leaves 270 SAR, which at 0.18 SAR per kWh is 1,500 kWh.
Why enter the meter fee?
It is a fixed part of the bill unrelated to usage; leaving it in overstates the kWh.
Does it work outside Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Change the tier limit, rates and VAT to match your tariff.
