How to use it

  1. Enter bedrooms, boxes per bedroom, other rooms (living, dining, office), boxes per other room, kitchens and boxes per kitchen.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Boxes = (bedrooms × boxes per bedroom) + (other rooms × boxes per room) + (kitchens × boxes per kitchen), then multiplied by (1 + margin ÷ 100) and rounded up.

Example

Inputs: Bedrooms = 2, Boxes per bedroom = 10, Other rooms (living, dining, office) = 2, Boxes per other room = 6, Kitchens = 1. Result: Suggested total boxes: 49; Boxes before margin: 44; Extra boxes from margin: 5.

Limits and caveats

  • Boxes per room are assumptions you adjust to your belongings, not a fixed standard.
  • Large furniture moved without boxes is not included.

Questions about this tool

How many boxes does a bedroom need?

It depends on clothes and books. The default of 10 boxes per bedroom is only a starting point, so count one room and adjust.

Why add a safety margin?

First estimates usually miss storage, balcony and small items. A 10% margin lowers the chance of running out while packing.

Does it tell me which box sizes to buy?

No, it gives the total count only. Put books and heavy items in small boxes and light things such as pillows in large ones.
