How to use it

  1. Enter year, pay frequency and a known payday.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Paydays = the known payday plus or minus multiples of 7, 14 or 28 days. We count the dates between 1 January and 31 December. A 365-day year is 52 weeks and 1 day, which is why an extra period sometimes appears.

Example

Inputs: Year = 2,026, Pay frequency = Every 2 weeks (biweekly), A known payday = 2026-01-02. Result: Pay periods in the year: 26; First payday of the year: Friday, January 2, 2026 (2026-01-02); Last payday of the year: Friday, December 18, 2026 (2026-12-18).

Limits and caveats

  • It assumes a payday is never moved earlier or later for a holiday or weekend.
  • Monthly pay always has 12 periods and semi-monthly pay 24, so they need no calculation.

Questions about this tool

Why do some years have 27 biweekly paydays?

26 paydays cover only 364 days, so if the first payday is 1 January, or 2 January in a leap year, a 27th lands at year end.

Does it matter which payday I enter?

Enter any real payday from any year; the calculator extends the schedule forwards and backwards at the same interval.

Why does an extra period matter?

If an annual salary is split into 26 payments, a 27-payday year pays out more cash that year, which helps with budgeting.
