How to use it
- Enter frame height, distance from frame top to hanging point and center height from floor.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Nail height = center height + frame height ÷ 2 − distance from frame top to the hanging point (taut wire or hook).
Example
Inputs: Frame height = 60 cm, Distance from frame top to hanging point = 10 cm, Center height from floor = 145 cm. Result: Nail height from floor: 165 cm; Top edge height: 175 cm; Bottom edge height: 115 cm.
Limits and caveats
- 145 cm is a gallery habit that puts the center near standing eye level, and you can change it.
- Above a sofa or sideboard, leaving 20 to 25 cm above the furniture often works better than a fixed center.
Questions about this tool
Why 145 cm?
It is close to average standing eye level and many galleries use it. In a living room you may prefer a little lower.
How do I measure the hanging point?
Pull the wire up with a finger as it will sit on the nail, then measure from its peak to the top of the frame.
What if I use two nails?
Use the same height for both and space them equally either side of the frame center.
