  1. Enter text and reading speed.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.

How it is calculated

Reading time in minutes = words ÷ reading speed (words per minute). Seconds = round(words × 60 ÷ speed).

Example

Inputs: Reading speed = 200 wpm. Result: Reading time: 0.12 min; Duration (m:ss): 0:07; Words: 24.

Limits and caveats

  • The default of 200 words per minute is a common estimate, not a measurement of any reader, and reading Arabic may be slower.
  • Time spent on images or tables is not included.

Questions about this tool

What is an average reading speed?

Most adults read silently at roughly 200 to 300 words per minute, slower for technical text. Set a speed that fits your audience.

How do I find my own reading speed?

Read for exactly one minute, then count the words you read. That number is your speed in words per minute.

Do numbers count as words?

Yes. Each separate number such as 2026 counts as one word.
