How to use it

  1. Enter amount, measure, measuring spoons and your own weighed teaspoon in grams (optional).
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

grams = number of spoons × weight per spoon. In the source: 1 tsp = 6 g, 1 tbsp = 18 g, 1 cup = 292 g. For metric spoons the weight is multiplied by the volume ratio: 5 ÷ 4.929 for a teaspoon and 15 ÷ 14.787 for a tablespoon, about 1.4% more.

Example

Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Teaspoon, Measuring spoons = US spoons (as in the source). Result: Weight in grams: 12 g; Grams per teaspoon used: 6 g; Sodium in this amount: 4,651 mg.

Limits and caveats

  • Figures are for a spoon leveled with a knife; a heaped spoon weighs clearly more.
  • The figure is for fine table salt; coarse and kosher salt weigh less per spoon because the crystals are larger.
