- Nearest rounds the exact midpoint up, such as 3 minutes when rounding to 6.
Questions about this tool
How does rounding to the nearest quarter hour work?
Minutes 1 to 7 past a quarter round down and 8 to 14 round up, so 08:07 becomes 08:00 and 08:08 becomes 08:15.
Why 6 minutes?
Six minutes is a tenth of an hour (0.1), a common step in billing time.
Can the time move to the next day?
Yes, rounding 23:55 up to a quarter hour gives 00:00 the next day.
