How to use it

  1. Enter screen size (diagonal) and seated eye height.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Screen height = diagonal × 9 ÷ √337 × 2.54 (cm) for 16:9. Center = eye height. Bottom edge = center − screen height ÷ 2, top edge = center + screen height ÷ 2.

Example

Inputs: Screen size (diagonal) = 55 in, Seated eye height = 107 cm. Result: Screen center height from floor: 107 cm; Bottom edge height: 72.8 cm; Top edge height: 141.2 cm.

Limits and caveats

  • Covers the picture area only. Bezels add a few centimeters.
  • Centering at eye level is a common habit for seated viewing. Bedrooms or over a fireplace may need a different height and tilt.

Questions about this tool

What is a typical seated eye height?

Roughly 100 to 115 cm on a standard sofa. For accuracy, sit in your spot and measure from the floor to your eyes.

Where do I fix the bracket?

The mounting holes are not always at the screen center. Measure from the holes to the bottom edge and add that to the bottom edge height shown.

Is mounting a TV high a problem?

Looking up for long periods can strain the neck, which is why many people keep the screen center near eye level.
