How to use it

  1. Enter cash in hand and bank, value of zakatable gold, value of zakatable silver, shares and trade goods, money owed to you (collectible) and debts you owe, due now.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Net = cash + gold value + silver value + investments + receivables - debts due now. Nisab = 85 × gold price per gram, or 595 × silver price per gram. If net reaches the nisab, zakat = net × 2.5%.

Example

Inputs: Cash in hand and bank = 50,000, Value of zakatable gold = 0, Value of zakatable silver = 0, Shares and trade goods = 20,000, Money owed to you (collectible) = 5,000. Result: Zakat due: 1,625.00; Net zakatable wealth: 65,000.00; Nisab in money: 34,000.00.

Limits and caveats

  • Assumes a full lunar year has passed, a 2.5% rate and a nisab of 85 g gold or 595 g silver; scholars differ on details.
  • Deducting debts from zakatable wealth is itself a point of difference between schools.

Questions about this tool

Should I use gold or silver for the nisab?

Both views are recognised. Many modern bodies use gold; the silver nisab is lower, so using it favours the poor.

Does worn jewellery count?

Most schools exempt jewellery kept for permitted personal use, while the Hanafi school counts it. Add its value here if you follow that view.

When is zakat paid?

After a full lunar year in which your wealth stayed at or above the nisab. Many people fix one date each year, such as in Ramadan.
