Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter date the nisab was reached.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

The date is converted to Hijri (Umm al-Qura), then we find the same day of the same month in the next Hijri year (or the month's last day if day 30 does not exist).

Example

Inputs: Date the nisab was reached = 2026-10-01. Result: Hawl completes on: Tuesday, September 21, 2027 (2027-09-21); Start date (Hijri): 20 Rabi al-Akhir 1448 AH; End date (Hijri): 20 Rabi al-Akhir 1449 AH.

Limits and caveats

  • Uses the Umm al-Qura calendar; a month may start a day apart from the sighting used in your country.
  • Assumes your wealth never fell below the nisab during the year; if it did, most scholars say the year restarts.

Questions about this tool

Why a Hijri year, not a Gregorian one?

Islamic rulings follow the lunar months, and the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year.

Can I use the Gregorian year?

Some modern scholars allow it with a slightly higher rate for the longer year, but the Hijri year is the rule.

Can zakat be paid early?

Most schools allow paying a year or two early once the nisab is reached; the Maliki school does not.
