How it is calculated
Weekly = price × cups per day × days per week. Yearly = weekly × 365 ÷ 7. Monthly = yearly ÷ 12. Saving = (cafe price - home cup cost) × cups × days × 365 ÷ 7.
Example
Inputs: Cafe price per cup = 15, Cups per day = 2, Buying days per week = 7, Home-made cost per cup (optional) = 3. Result: Yearly cost: 10,950.00; Monthly cost: 912.50; Weekly cost: 210.00.
Limits and caveats
- It uses a 365-day year and does not remove holidays or travel.
- Future price rises are not included; the 10-year figure uses today prices.
Questions about this tool
How do I work out a home-made cup cost?
Divide the price of a bag of coffee by the cups it makes, and add the milk if you use it. That is your cost per cup.
Why not multiply the weekly cost by 52?
A year has 365 days, which is 52.14 weeks, so multiplying by 365 ÷ 7 is more precise.
Can I use it for other drinks?
Yes, it works for any repeated daily purchase such as juice or snacks; just change the price and count.
