How it is calculated
Spending money = budget − prepaid costs. Daily per person = spending money ÷ days ÷ travelers.
Example
Inputs: Total budget = 10,000, Prepaid costs (flights, hotel) = 6,000, Trip days = 7 days, Travelers = 2. Result: Daily budget per person: 285.71; Daily budget for the group: 571.43; Spending money: 4,000.00.
Limits and caveats
- It assumes equal spending each day, though activity days usually cost more.
- Keep an emergency fund outside this budget.

What goes in prepaid costs?
Anything paid before you travel, such as flights, hotel, insurance and visa fees.
Does the daily budget include lodging?
Not if you put the hotel in prepaid costs; the daily figure is then for food, transport and activities.
How do I use the number on the trip?
Treat it as a daily cap, and carry any savings from one day to another.
