How it is calculated
Days = day number of the end date − day number of the start date in the Gregorian calendar (+1 if you count the end day). Weeks = days ÷ 7 with the remainder in days.
Example
Inputs: Start date = 2024-01-15, End date = 2026-10-01, Count the end day as well = no. Result: Number of days: 990; In weeks: 141 weeks and 3 days; In years, months and days: 2 years, 8 months, 16 days.
Limits and caveats
- Uses the Gregorian calendar even for dates before its adoption in 1582.
- Hours assume 24 hours per day and ignore daylight saving changes.
Questions about this tool
Are the start and end days included?
By default it counts the difference, so 1 to 2 January is 1 day. Tick the end day option when you count both ends, as with leave days.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes, 29 February is counted automatically in every leap year.
How are months counted in the breakdown?
Whole months run from the same day number each month, using the last day of a shorter month, and the rest is shown as days.
