Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter number of dice, sides per die, modifier (added to total) and draw number.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Each die gives a whole number from 1 to its side count s with equal chance. Total = sum of rolls + modifier. Lowest = n + modifier, highest = n × s + modifier, expected average = n × (s + 1) / 2 + modifier.
Example
Inputs: Number of dice = 2, Sides per die = d6 (6 sides), Modifier (added to total) = 0, Draw number = 1. Result: Total: 10; Rolls: 5, 5; Lowest possible total: 2.
Limits and caveats
- All dice in one roll share the same side count, so run the tool once per type for a mixed roll.
- Earlier rolls are not kept.
Questions about this tool
What do d20 and 2d6 mean?
The number after d is the side count and the number before it is how many dice, so 2d6 means rolling two six-sided dice.
Why does 7 come up so often with two dice?
Six of the 36 combinations give 7, which makes it the most common total for two six-sided dice.
What is the modifier for?
Role-playing games often add a fixed number such as +2 to a roll. The tool adds it to the total and to the lowest and highest totals.
