Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter tank size, fuel consumption, safety reserve and trip distance.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Range = tank × (1 − reserve % ÷ 100) ÷ consumption × 100. Refuel stops = ceil(trip distance ÷ range) − 1, starting with a full tank.
Example
Inputs: Tank size = 60 L, Fuel consumption = 8 L/100 km, Safety reserve = 10 %, Trip distance = 1,200 km. Result: Safe range: 675 km; Range to empty: 750 km; Refuel stops on the way: 1.
Limits and caveats
- Highway consumption differs from city driving, so use a realistic figure for your trip.
- The tool does not know where stations are; plan fills before empty stretches.
Questions about this tool
Why keep a safety reserve?
Fuel gauges are not exact, and a reserve keeps you from running dry before the next station.
How are refuel stops counted?
It assumes you start with a full tank and counts how many fills you need before the trip ends.
Where do I find my tank size?
In the owner's manual or on the maker's website. Most sedans hold 45 to 70 liters.
