How it is calculated
grams = cups × 200 g per US cup (236.59 mL). For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 200 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 211.34 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Weight in grams: 400 g; Weight in ounces: 14.11 oz; Grams per cup used: 200 g.
Limits and caveats
- The figure is for dry chickpeas before soaking; soaked or canned chickpeas are entirely different.
- Seed size varies by variety, and large seeds leave more gaps in the cup.
- USDA figures are rounded to the whole gram per cup, and grain size, variety and moisture make your real weight a little higher or lower.
