How it is calculated
cups = grams ÷ 200 g per US cup (236.59 mL). With a 250 mL metric cup divide by 211.34 g. The leftover part of a cup is shown in tablespoons (16 per US cup, 15 mL each in metric), rounded to the nearest half spoon.
Example
Inputs: Weight = 1,000 g, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Cups: 5; In cups and spoons: 5 cups + 0 tbsp; Volume in millilitres: 1,183 mL.
Limits and caveats
- Uses the USDA figure for dry chickpeas (200 g per cup); large seeds may weigh a little less per cup.
- How you fill the cup changes the weight: spoon it in and level it without packing, or weigh your cup once and enter the figure in the optional box.
- Figures are for the dry product before cooking or soaking; cooked weight is much higher because it absorbs water.
